
Obituary of Ms. Helen M. Boyd
Helen Marie Boyd peacefully departed this life on January 27, 2025. Born in Crenshaw County, Alabama, she was the beloved daughter of the late Herbert and Emma Ree Boyd. She is survived by her sister, Carolyn Boyd Ford, along with her treasured nieces and nephews: Alvin, Anita, Eddie Max, Linda, Glenda, Ju’Wayne, and Donnie. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, 1SG Ret. Alvin Ford, and her sisters-in-law, Pronetta Boyd and Stella Love. Helen was preceded in death by her special friend, Lester Love; her brothers, Herbert Junior Boyd, Lomax Boyd, and Osbern Max Boyd; as well as her nephew, Lorenzo Flowers.
Helen maintained strong connections with family and friends, including:

She also leaves behind a vibrant legacy, including a host of cousins, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Throughout her remarkable journey, Helen exemplified unwavering dedication and an abiding love for her family and community. Following her high school graduation, Helen embarked on an adventurous path that led her from Crenshaw County to Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Fueled by a profound passion for helping others, she attended the University of Wisconsin, where she earned her Registered Nurse (RN) degree. Helen discovered her true calling in psychiatric nursing, a vocation that enabled her to touch countless lives with her warmth, empathy, and understanding.
In addition to her nursing career, Helen was one of the four co-founders of the Wisconsin African American Women’s (WAAW) Center. Her dedication to the community is immortalized in a large mural on the side of their building, depicting the four co-founders, who are recognized as upstanding leaders in the community.
Even after her retirement, Helen's commitment to service remained steadfast. She founded multiple businesses designed to empower individuals with disabilities, reflecting her unwavering dedication to fostering positive change in the lives of others.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Helen was a vibrant spirit who embraced life with enthusiasm and joy. With a flair for fashion, she relished traveling, music, and the company of family and friends. Her philanthropic spirit shone brightly through her involvement in various causes and her unwavering support for St. John Methodist Church, a source of strength and community for her.
Helen's love for culinary delights was rivaled only by her joy in family reunions, where laughter and love flourished. She celebrated each day of her life, right up until the end, and her infectious smile and generous heart will forever be cherished by all who had
the privilege of knowing her.
A memorial service will be held to honor Helen's life and legacy at Serenity Funeral Home, Milwaukee Wisconsin, providing family and friends the opportunity to come together in remembrance. Details regarding the service will be shared with loved ones and the community.
Helen’s impact on those around her will never be forgotten. Her compassion, strength, and commitment to making the world a better place will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to cross her path. In our hearts, she will always remain a guiding light, reminding us to cherish our loved ones and embrace life’s joys.
