Shirley Ann Meekins Watson was born to Prima Lee Watson and Napoleon Meekins (both deceased) on January 18, 1935. Shirley, our Mother, departed physical life on 1-17-2020 and was delivered to the hands of the Lord for eternal rest and peace.
She was born in Greenville South Carolina and later relocated to Milwaukee Wisconsin after retiring from the Greenville County Library System.
She leaves to cherish her memory: Daughter- Terri Watson-Wright (Wilbert Wright), Grandsons- Sean Watson and Terico Watson, Son-in-Law -Wilbert L. Wright, Grand Daughter- Ebonie McCord and Great Grandson- Stephon Watson. She also leaves behind a dear friend Mrs. Pearl Hudgens (SC) who is like a sister and a childhood friend of over 80 years, a beloved cousin Barbara Jean Foster (SC), childhood friend Katrina Sims (SC) and a host of others whose lives she shared and impacted.
Shirley was a strong woman who forged on daily in spite of illnesses that attacked her physical body but not her spirit. She was fond of her Grandsons and always grateful for the exceptional caregiving contributions by Sean Watson. She fondly called her Son-in-Law “Willie” when she wanted to tease him; He was instrumental in the caregiving process as well.
Shirley loved to cook, keep cherished momentos, spoil her grandchildren, watch her favorite soap opera, call her friends, read and share private jokes with her daughter. She impacted the lives of many of the neighborhood/childhood friends of her grandson Terico by cooking meals for them as they grew up. She was also a “free hearted” person who would give her last to help someone else.
Shirley’s memory will be forever cherished, respected, fondly remembered and mentioned using the grace and dignity so deserved/demanded by her and her family.
May the Lord, our God hold and keep our Mother Shirley in his eternal presence.
