James was a wonderful, God loving man. He taught me a lot about faith and Jesus and it was an immense joy to do ministry with him. He will be greatly missed, but I know he is enjoying heaven!

I always enjoyed talking to James about fishing. He was a real nice guy and I know that he had faith in Jesus because we would talk about it. He had trouble on earth just like we all do. Thank God that he has the joy of heaven now and doesn't have to deal with earthly troubles. I look forward to seeing him again in heaven someday. Please remember what it says in John 11:25 when Jesus said “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live." My sincere condolences to the family of James Slocum.

My condolences to the family in your time of loss. May the God of all Comfort give your family the peace and strength to get through this difficult time. As you reflect on the positive memories you shared together with him you can take comfort in the loving promise that soon “death will be no more.” – Revelation 21:4

Jim was one of my best friends from high school. He was the type of friend that when I came to Milwaukee for a class reunion years ago and he didn't that I found him and went to visit him. He was a real friend who was a part of his friend's souls. I'm so grateful to have had the opportunity to know this good man and have his influence on me. I am a much better person for knowing him! He was on the wrestling team and I was a statistician. My sons all wrestled in high school and I often told them stories of all of my Marshall wrestling friends.
My love to his family and friends. He is one person that I will want to see in heaven.

I am so sorry that I will not be able to express my condolences in person at James’ funeral.
James was so kind, considerate, cooperative, funny, and I always enjoyed talking with him. I will miss seeing him every day here at Sem. I know that he has left a void in your lives and you will miss him. From our discussions, I know that someday I will see James again. Paul writes in 1 Thessalonians 4:16-18 “For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever. 18 Therefore encourage one another with these words.”
We read in James 1:12 Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him.
I believe that Jesus has welcomed James into heaven and has given him the crown of life. I also pray that God will comfort you and strengthen you as you mourn James passing. May God bless you and be with you until the day when you will see James again.
